The countdown is on to the MSASA 2026 Day Conference & AGM, and we’re pleased to release the proposed conference timetable for Saturday, 10 October 2026 at Epworth Richmond, Victoria.
This year’s theme, Going the Extra Mile, will come to life through a full day of clinical education, professional updates, expert discussion, practical workshops and opportunities to connect with fellow Surgical Assistants.
The morning will focus on plenary presentations, followed by an afternoon of smaller, practical breakout sessions.
Morning Program
7:30 am – Registration & Arrival Refreshments
Arrive early, register and catch up with colleagues before the conference gets underway.
8:00 am – Welcome & Opening Plenary
The opening session will include the official welcome and an update from MSASA President Nigel.
Radiation Safety in the OR
8:20 am
Samuel Lilli will examine radiation safety in the operating room, an important consideration for surgical teams regularly working in environments involving radiation exposure.
Patient Positioning – What Can Go Wrong?
8:50 am
Patient positioning is an everyday part of surgery, but what happens when things go wrong?
This session will explore the potential risks and complications associated with patient positioning in the operating theatre.
MIGA Medico-Legal Update
From 9:15 am
Our Gold Sponsor MIGA will present a comprehensive medico-legal update across two sessions, examining issues and developments relevant to Surgical Assistants and contemporary clinical practice.

Going the Extra Mile – Expert Panel

What does it really mean to Go the Extra Mile as a Surgical Assistant?
A panel of experienced Surgical Assistants will discuss professional practice, teamwork, patient care and the qualities that help practitioners deliver beyond what is simply expected.
Medicare Changes – Assignment of Benefit: What You Need to Know
12:00 pm
Tony Stewart will provide an important update on changes surrounding Medicare Assignment of Benefit, including what Surgical Assistants need to understand about their obligations under the new arrangements.

12:30 pm – Lunch
Afternoon Breakout Sessions
From 1:30 pm, the conference moves into its practical component, with delegates participating in a series of smaller breakout sessions.
The proposed breakout program includes:
- Suturing Workshop
- Plaster Workshop
- SYLKE Dressings
- Basic Life Support
- Da Vinci Training
We are also considering additional practical sessions as the final breakout program is confirmed.
Breakout sessions will run in rotations throughout the afternoon, giving delegates more focused, hands-on learning.
Breakout Places Are Limited
Some sessions have limited capacity.
Delegate preferences will therefore be allocated on a first-registered, first-allocated basis.
If there are particular breakout sessions you would like to attend, we strongly recommend securing your conference registration as soon as possible.
We will provide further information about selecting breakout sessions to registered delegates.
3:30 pm – Afternoon Tea
Breakout sessions resume at 4:00 pm, with the final rotation concluding at 5:30 pm.
MSASA Annual General Meeting
5:30 pm – 6:00 pm
MSASA members are invited to remain for the 2026 Annual General Meeting.
Continue the Conversation
The day doesn’t have to finish when the conference does.
From 6:30 pm, delegates are invited to join colleagues for the Post Conference Networking Function at Ms Parker Restaurant, approximately 100 metres from the conference venue.
Enjoy drinks and finger food while catching up with colleagues, speakers and industry partners.
